This is the opinion in a commentary to a Kyiv online newspaper "Country" said the former head of the information department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Voloshin.
“In fact, it is a myth that Ukraine needs lethal weapons to win in the war in the east. We are the weakest in non-lethal weapons - we have very weak communications and reconnaissance systems. We have artillery and tanks, but we need unmanned aerial vehicles, secure communication systems, we need to improve cybersecurity - as the Petya A virus has shown, this is also a modern war, which causes great damage with minimal losses to the enemy. Just look at the kind of airborne assault Russia is launching as part of “Zapad-2017” - and where is our aviation anyway? So if someone is now arguing that the United States promised us Javelins, but is giving us some kind of radars, such talk surprises me,” the expert said.
“We need to know what our weaknesses are and support them - and not cling to the loud phrase “lethal weapon” and shout “zrada.” This lethal weapon will do nothing for us. The United States supplied similar anti-tank systems to the Syrian opposition, but this did not help it, and now the civil war has actually been won by Assad and Russia,” Voloshin noted.
