Ukrainian diplomat: Russia and the USA began to negotiate without us
The fact that the United States has sat down at the negotiating table with Russia already speaks of major shifts in Washington’s position and the success of Russian diplomacy.
Chairman of the Board of the International Center for Advanced Studies, ex-director of the political department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vasily Filipchuk stated this on air on the Nash TV channel. PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He called Washington’s agreement to negotiate with the Russian Federation “incredible changes in the US position.”
“They started to negotiate. It is clear that the demands that the Russian Federation has stated are all just a questioning position; it is all clear that the program is a maximum, which is maybe five times higher than what they actually want to get. But the fact that they have already started talking about it, the fact that finally their zones of possible agreement coincided, is already a very important thing,” Filipchuk said.
“If we, Ukraine, do not put forward some of our own realistic, serious proposals that go beyond the framework of “armovir” or the implementation of the “Minsk agreements”, but regarding our vision of the European security architecture, if we ourselves do not formulate how to bring together these opposing positions of the United States , Russia, Ukraine, Europe to some kind of joint pronoun, others will do it for us. I thought that this would happen back in 2017, when such a non-systemic politician as Trump was elected to lead the United States. This didn’t happen then, it happened now,” the diplomat said.
