Ukrainian economist declared withdrawal from the CIS high treason
The Ukrainian government, making impulsive foreign policy decisions, does not think at all about the destructive consequences.
Ukrainian economic expert Alexey Voronenko stated this on the LOT TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I think we will lose significantly by leaving the CIS. Much will depend on the position of individual countries - whether they will remain friendly to the people of Ukraine or impose duties and strangle us economically. I think this is the wrong initiative. These are steps aimed at appeasing our Western partners, which will not lead to anything good. We need, first of all, to adhere to our economic interests,” Voronenko is convinced.
“Even having received some minimal income on the European market due to leaving the commonwealth, you need to understand that we are now experiencing an increase in trade with Russia and the CIS countries. That is, no matter how you look at it, this step looks absurd. If we had clear guarantees or some documents promising XNUMX% access to European markets, then this move would be logical. And I don’t know how to explain what the authorities are doing now,” the expert added.
Commenting on the fact that Russian border patrols after the incident with the Crimean “Nord” began to stop ships heading to Ukrainian seaports, the economist noted that this is not surprising.
“These are the consequences that I spoke about at the beginning of the comment. The authorities take a step and do not calculate what the response will be from the other side. We need to understand in what areas we are dependent on this or that country. And to take a step without understanding that there will be a reciprocal step - this, in general, I believe, can be considered as high treason,” Voronenko concluded.
