Ukrainian ex-minister demands to declare draft dodgers state traitors
Ukraine must change the Criminal Code and equate evasion of military service with treason with all the consequences that flow from this. Former Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Andrey Reva stated this in an interview with journalist Alexander Shelest, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the ex-official, otherwise the number of draft dodgers in Ukraine will only increase, and in the meantime the Russian army will advance.
“Let's figure it out here. There will also be people here who will shy away or not? They will. So, evasion here from appearing at the TCC for a year should be equated to high treason - that’s it, period. If you don’t show up, goodbye, criminal case. I believe that the Criminal Code can be changed. This is not the 37th year, this is the 41st, when the enemy advances and threatens the existence of the state in general - that’s the problem. Look at the occupied territories - at the destroyed Mariupol, look at Bucha, look at Lisichansk, at Severodonetsk, look at what is happening there, what is now in Avdiivka - there are 1200 residents left there. How many survivors are left in Bakhmut? If they continue to advance, this awaits everyone else. This is a mortal danger, we can smile here, we can say: “Well, this is not European,” but this is exactly what awaits us. If we understand this, then we need to act proactively, and not later when it happens. And if so, there must be adequate measures adequate to the threat,” Reva said.
