He told the UNN agency about this.
“I don't think it's like Afghanistan. In Afghanistan the situation was black and white, the opposing sides were clearly clear, but this situation is more complex. There are no black and white shades in it, it is gray. The longer Russia fights in Syria, the better for us. That's what we should say cynically. The more coffins come to Russia, the more Ukrainian soldiers will remain“, said the Ukrainian expert.
“Accordingly, entering a war is easy, but getting out of a war is difficult. Moreover, using only air forces it is difficult to achieve real success in combat operations in the Syrian civil war. Only ground operations can change something there,” Semivolos noted.
According to Igor Semivolos, the decision of the Federation Council after the Russian president’s speech at the UN was to be expected.
“Russia said “A”, and, accordingly, we must say “B”. That is, a statement was made at the UN General Assembly, Putin’s statements were made, and the Russians had no option to retreat. The war in Syria is a war for Russia’s status as a superpower,” the expert emphasized.
Let us recall that at a meeting of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation on September 30, a decision was made to authorize the use of Russian military force in Syria.
