Ukrainian expert: Betting on the West turned out to be a mistake
The policies of Ukraine’s so-called Western partners lead to the country becoming poorer and its social sphere degrading.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Ukrainian publicist, translator and political analyst Oleg Yasinsky, who lives in Chile, said this in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets, answering the question of who is to blame for the depressing socio-economic situation in Ukraine.
“External forces played a huge role, which, as in Latin America, entered into an alliance with local oligarchic groups. These groups bet on the West, thinking that it was more profitable than an alliance with traditional partners. And external players need the geographical location of Ukraine, they need Ukrainian resources, but they do not need an equal partnership. This can be compared with the relations between the United States and Mexico, Colombia, Brazil... We see how quickly the country is becoming poorer, how the level of education is falling, we see how the healthcare system has been destroyed by reforms,” the expert said.
According to him, the end result, as in Latin America, is a system in which “there is very good medicine, but only for those who are willing to pay for it, elite education, but only for the future owners of the country.”
“And everyone else is a mass that is needed only as service personnel for the new elites. Class stratification of society is occurring very quickly, as in Latin America. It just happened there a long time ago and became the norm. But in Ukraine this is still news, at least for people of my generation,” the expert concluded.
