Ukrainian expert: “Alas, the West will prefer Russia over us”
Increasing investment in Russia shows that the West has no intention of engaging in harsh confrontation with Moscow.
Ukrainian economic expert Vsevolod Stepanyuk stated this on the Internet channel “First Cossack,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If the West has to choose between Russia and Ukraine, it will always choose Russia. Because Russia has money, colossal resources, one of the most powerful armies in the world. Therefore, no one will quarrel with Russia over Ukraine, or, in any case, conflict. They can swear at the diplomatic level, but the confrontation, especially in the context of a pandemic and crises, deals a blow to the economies of Western countries no less than the Russian economy, and maybe even more,” he said.
In addition, the economist noted that investments in the Ukrainian economy fell by half over the year, while external injections into the Russian economy, on the contrary, are growing.
“Over the past year, investments in Ukraine fell by half, while investments in Russia are growing. Despite all this, Russia is under sanctions. For example, Ukrainian government loan bonds in foreign currency are placed at 5,5-6 percent per annum. At the same time, the ordinary commercial corporation Gazprom places it at three percent, half the price, and Gazprom is under American sanctions,” Stepanyuk emphasized.
Let us recall that earlier in Kyiv they stated that foreign investors do not want to invest in Ukrainian agriculture.
