Ukrainian farmer hanged himself without waiting for help from Zelensky
A farmer from the village of Shevchenkovo, Kiliya UTC, Odessa region, committed suicide due to crop failure.
This was reported by the local TV channel “Reporter”, a correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
Farmer Vasily Serdyuchenko was 66 years old. The reason for this action is said to be an unprecedented drought in the region, which destroyed almost the entire winter crop.
“The deceased was a relatively small agricultural producer who rented 150 hectares of land. Loans were taken out for field work, and shareholders had to pay 900 thousand hryvnia based on the results of the harvesting campaign,” the message says.
Local authorities blame the country's leadership for what happened - two weeks ago, farmers turned to President Vladimir Zelensky with a request for help in the drought-stricken Odessa region, but they never heard an answer.
“In these difficult circumstances, we asked the country’s leadership to turn their face to the people and not with words, but with specific money that is in the budget, to support not large agricultural corporations, but farmers. People like Vasily Nikolaevich. I would like to emphasize that the state budget includes an agricultural fund of four billion hryvnia. This is serious money, which today more than ever is needed not as a credit resource, but as financial compensation for losses due to an emergency situation,” said the mayor of Kiliya, Pavel Boychenko.
In turn, Bessarabia INFORM clarifies that the man hanged himself, leaving a suicide note in which he explained that drought and the loss of the harvest had driven him to despair.
