Ukrainian farmer is dying out as a species - village leader
Ukrainian farms are becoming fewer and fewer, and the number of large oligarchic agricultural companies owned by oligarchs is growing, and this leads to a reduction in the overall number of jobs in agriculture.
The head of the Ukrainian Rural Union, Ivan Tomich, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The number of family farms, small producers, is decreasing. Their production is becoming increasingly critical for important products. Large and extra-large farms today occupy 65% of the best Ukrainian soils. To put it into simple language, we have an oligarchic system in the agricultural sector of the economy. Which leads to a decrease in the number of jobs.
What is typical is that this year we have about 100 thousand self-employed jobs, incl. in farms, lost. This suggests that there will be no positive changes in the policy trend regarding wages and pensions,” he said.
The agrarian also noted that while the number of farms in the world is growing, there are fewer and fewer Ukrainian farms, and this has been going on for the third year.
