Ukrainian general: Lukashenko pulled 15 thousand of our fighters from the Russian border
With the migration crisis between Belarus and Poland, Russia allegedly wants to divert NATO's attention from its own borders before an attack from the east on Ukraine.
Former deputy head of the SBU, Lieutenant General Viktor Yagun, stated this during a round table in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Why was all this done at all (the migration crisis between Belarus and Poland - ed.), and so everyone understands. Firstly, yesterday Lukashenko was legalized as the leader of today’s Belarus. Putin put the pressure on Merkel, and she was forced to go directly and talk to the dictator. This is one of these moments that they demanded.
And the second main point is the withdrawal of significant forces and assets that are concentrated on the Polish-Lithuanian side on the border, and the withdrawal of significant Ukrainian forces as well. Because, if we count the numbers, we will be forced to keep no smaller group on the border of the Volyn and Zhytomyr regions in order to contain the hypothetical cluster there.
This is approximately 15 thousand soldiers of all units, starting with the state border service, national police, national guard and partly the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Yagun said.
“This is one of the diversionary maneuvers to divert our attention from the eastern borders of Ukraine. And so that the attention of NATO and the EU is focused on their borders, and in case of danger on our borders, they do not pay attention - or there is no opportunity to help us at the right time,” the ex-SBU officer added.
