The former head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Vladimir Zamana, stated this in the Obolonsky court of Kyiv during the consideration of the case of “state treason by Viktor Yanukovych,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, Pavel Lebedev, who then held the position of Defense Minister, gave the order to ensure the security of the SBU building in Lvov and to transfer troops to Kyiv, but Zamana refused to carry out this order.
“By that time, an anti-terrorist operation plan had already been introduced. But the law on the anti-terrorist operation clearly states what tasks the armed forces can perform. I only agreed to the transfer of Mi-8 military transport helicopters to the city of Vasilkov, since this is provided for by law...
There were seizures of regional administrations, the Security Service, internal troops, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Western Ukraine. In particular, I don’t remember exactly, maybe it was somewhere on February 16, before the seizure of the SBU building in Lvov, I received a report from the commander of the 80th airmobile regiment in Lvov that he had received the task of ensuring the security of the SBU building.
I say: “Who gave such an order”? The order was given by the Minister of Defense. After that, I clarified to the Minister of Defense that there are certain forces and means to strengthen security, but I cannot give such an order. And he forbade the regiment commander to do this. In addition, there were attempts to redeploy those units that were preparing to strengthen the group in Crimea to Kyiv. This happened for about a week or two in February. After another skirmish, I said that I would not prepare or give such an order. On the same day, I was informed that the President of Ukraine signed a decree on my dismissal,” Zamana said.
