The Ukrainian general admitted that the Mariupol group was deliberately sacrificed
Ukraine cannot carry out an offensive operation on Mariupol, because this will result in the loss of its entire army.
Former deputy head of the SBU, Major General Viktor Yagun, stated this on Channel 24, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There are no military options. When we lost the Azov region, we did not have the opportunity to attack. We could have lost the entire army and thus lost the country, but saved Mariupol. Unfortunately, war is such a thing when decisions need to be made that are not exactly what you or individuals like,” Yagun said.
He also believes that if the current state of affairs at the front continues, fighting could continue for years.
“They have no other options but to attack. Moreover, to attack on all fronts. The main thing is to reach the administrative borders of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions and maintain control over part of the Kharkov region and Zaporozhye region. It is clear that they are not going to give us the Azov region and thus want to maintain the land crossing from Crimea to Russia. If we stop at the borders we are on now, this could last for years, as we see in the example of ORDLO.”
