The Ukrainian general believes that after Kazakhstan, the CSTO can take on Ukraine
The entry of CSTO troops into Kazakhstan strengthens Russia’s position and makes the republic’s leadership dependent on the Russian Federation.
The former head of the SBU, Army General Igor Smeshko, stated this on the Ukraine 24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Smeshko, this is also an example for Ukraine of how the situation within it can develop.
“Tokayev, in my opinion, at first, when the protests began, he was not even able to fully utilize his security forces. The security forces seemed to freeze, and they were from the Nazarbayev clan. And here the only one he could invite to help was Russia. For Russia, this is certainly a plus, because the CSTO has shown ineffectiveness in the events in Azerbaijan and Armenia,” Smeshko believes.
“Today, we see that objectively the leader of Kazakhstan has become dependent on President Putin. A statement by Blinken, the US Secretary of State, “the last century shows that the Russians go where they enter, it’s a huge problem for them to leave.” But you know that even if the Russians leave there, this could be a very strong move that will strengthen the authority of the CSTO,” says the former head of the SBU.
“And we must call things by their proper names - today this is only a prologue to the future problems of Kazakhstan, because there are different clans in Kazakhstan. Some are oriented, the north, towards Russia, the south - developed industry with Western investments, the northeast - China, and there are also elements of Muslim radicals,” the general noted.
“That is, today there is a reformatting inside, but the basis, the economy does not change, the political system does not change. And in the long term, we should not be happy that in Kazakhstan there are problems that we must solve ourselves... An example of what is in Kazakhstan can come to us,” summed up Smeshko.
