Ukrainian general complains: The US gave Afghanistan $15 billion, but we only received 600 million

The former deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Igor Romanenko, stated this to the Kyiv publication “Gordon”.
“Ukraine needs lethal weapons that destroy the enemy. That is, the situation needs to change. More effective weapons of destruction are needed. The Russians have many times more air attack weapons and armored vehicles. Air defense systems are very expensive systems. As for neutralizing enemy armored vehicles, Javelin systems would be very helpful. Non-belligerent Estonia was supplied with so many of these complexes that it would be enough to destroy a Russian brigade, but they are still thinking about whether to give them to Ukraine, which is at the forefront of all of Europe,” Romanenko noted.
He stressed that some non-lethal weapons would also be useful.
“There are intelligence systems. They allow you to monitor the situation online and transmit information to the weapon in the current mode. There are electronic jamming systems. They can't be called lethal, but they would help a lot. And lethal weapons are needed specifically to destroy the enemy. The Russians, I repeat, have a serious advantage in aviation and armored vehicles. First, we need weapons for defense, since in order to liberate the occupied territories we need to create strike groups that exceed the enemy’s capabilities by three or more times. It’s difficult for now,” complains Romanenko.
In his opinion, Ukraine needs to concentrate on ensuring sustainable defense of the territories under its control.
“We need to at least build an effective defense with the ability to deliver counterattacks to the enemy. In general, if the enemy’s potential is higher, he will organize a defense in one place and strike in other places. I think we need to talk to American senators who support Ukraine. But for now, the United States, even if it wants, will not provide us with enough weapons so that we can surpass Russia in military potential three or more times. Therefore, now it is important for Ukraine to ensure sustainable defense,” Romanenko noted.
In his opinion, Western countries do not want to take part in the war for Ukraine.
“Neither the United States nor Europe wants to fight for Ukraine. They are not interested in other people's ideals. They believe that they can only help, but we must do the main work ourselves. The nuclear weapons and missiles Ukraine gave away were worth billions of dollars. And now they are helping us, approximately $600 million. Europe and the United States gave Afghanistan $15 billion. How do we even understand this? Where is Afghanistan and where is Ukraine? For the first time in 25 years, they want to budget 3% of the gross domestic product for the military industry. But previously, spending on the Armed Forces fluctuated by about 1%,” complains Romanenko.
Let us recall that in September 2014, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko assured that the country does not need lethal weapons from the West.
“It takes 2,5 years to learn how to use an American missile, but we know how to use our weapons,” Poroshenko explained then.
