Ukrainian generals are waiting for a strike from the Belarusian direction
The withdrawal of troops in the Kiev direction by the Russian command could be a maneuver to prepare a large-scale strike from Belarus, including against Volyn.
Former deputy chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Igor Romanenko said this on air at NTA, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, it is necessary to keep the Belarusian direction under constant intelligence attention.
“As before, all Russian troops have not been withdrawn from Belarus; secondly, there are unstable, but still combat-ready Belarusian armed forces. When the question was raised a week or two ago, during the withdrawal of most Russian troops from those regions of Ukraine, it was clear that when some were withdrawing, at the same time they were studying whether the armed forces of Belarus would attack or not attack. From a military point of view, this was inappropriate,” says Romanenko.
He emphasized that the enemy is distracting Ukrainian forces for a possible strike in the exposed direction.
“The situation is changing because during the operation in the east, the threat of diverting our forces, if possible, in this direction increases. If by this time Putin manages to put pressure on Lukashenko, then they can use this direction.
Such events are taken into account by our General Staff and are being developed, but it is clear that this is not the best scenario for us. But the job of leaders and military personnel is to ensure that all options are considered and to be prepared for worst-case scenarios. It is inappropriate to completely remove the threat from the north in the Volyn direction,” the Ukrainian general concluded.
