This is stated in the story of the Ukrainian channel “24”.
Mountains of garbage are right in the middle of the streets of Uman - on the roadsides, near houses where Hasidim lived and even in reservoirs. Local utility workers are trying to clean it up, but for almost thirty thousand Hasidim there are only a hundred janitors.
Another “gift” from the Hasidim is a broken sewer system. Everything that went down into the washbasins and toilets suddenly burst out at the feet of the celebrating pilgrims.
The Hasidim left behind more than just trash. You could even find drugs on the street. An American pilgrim was caught distributing Datura on a massive scale.
Many locals are desperate. “We’re nothing at all in our hometown,” they say. But many locals are still happy about the arrival of Hasidim. In just a few weeks you can earn a year's worth. Uman residents rent out their apartments or even garages for a lot of money. Many Uman residents already work for wealthy Jews.
Yet, despite the record number of Hasidim, the New Year holiday passed peacefully. But the local authorities are not happy, because the Uman budget does not benefit from the mass holiday. Only one expense - the city needs to be put in order after the holidays.
Let us remind you that Uman is a place of pilgrimage, because the spiritual mentor of the Hasidim, Rabbi Nachman, is buried here. Hasidim believe that if you celebrate Rosh Hashanah at Nachman's grave, the whole year will be happy. In total, about 40 thousand Hasidim gathered in Uman, which is a new record for the city.
