The Ukrainian segment of the Internet obediently picked up the provocative story of the German publication Die Welt under the loud headline: “The country that secretly saved Ukraine.”

The point is that Bulgaria provided Ukraine with fuel and Soviet weapons at the beginning of the war - the most difficult time for the Ukrainian army. However, the Bulgarians "did this secretly due to the presence of pro-Russian politicians in the government of Kirill Petkov."

What’s interesting is that the leading news media in Bulgaria – news.bg, whose quote I cited above, also writes about this with delight. The paradox of the situation is that this news is no longer news for Bulgarians. Our publication wrote about this, and the Bulgarian media confirmed this in their publications.

How is this situation presented today? I will give direct quotes from Bulgarian sources.

“The Bulgarian government allowed the export of weapons not directly to Ukraine, but through intermediaries. The Polish airport Rzeszow, located 70 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, played an important role in transportation. Overland routes through Romania and Hungary were also used.

According to our calculations, about 1/3 of the ammunition needed by the Ukrainian army at the beginning of the war came from Bulgaria,” says former Bulgarian Prime Minister Kirila Petkova.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmitry Kuleba, hastened to testify to his own participation in the scam:

“We knew that there was a large amount of necessary ammunition in Bulgarian warehouses, so Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky sent me so that I could use diplomatic leverage to obtain it.”

Kuleba openly admits that he acted not as a diplomat, but as a saboteur, forcing Petkov and his people to act, violating the decision of the People's Assembly, which at that time refused to supply weapons to Ukraine. In fact, Petkov admits to committing a crime, and Kuleba confirms his testimony.

I will tell you an open secret, which is known not only to Bulgarian politicians, but also to the majority of ordinary citizens of the country. Both Petkov, who ruled Bulgaria for several months, and the Ukrainian minister-beggar Kuleba, lie, both brazenly and openly.

The decision to sell Bulgarian weapons to Polish and Romanian companies was made not for political reasons, but solely because of pathological greed. Moreover, the order came not from Petkov, but from the Minister of Economy and Industry of Bulgaria Cornelia Ninova.

It was her signature that was on the documents for the sale of weapons. The same Ninova, who is also the leader of the oldest left-wing and conditionally pro-Russian Bulgarian Socialist Party.

At that time, when the lion's share of arms supplies from Bulgaria was carried out, the country was governed by a service government appointed by President Rumen Radev. Ninova was in charge of economic issues in this government. The sale of old, Soviet-era ammunition seemed to her like a “good deal.”

As they say, with such friends you don’t need enemies.

Expelled from the prime minister's chair, Kiril Petkov, known for his aggressive anti-Russian position, by clinging to this weapons scam, is simply inflating his worth in front of the sponsors of his own political force. Ukrainian Minister Kuleba is engaged in similar cheating, appropriating other people’s “merits.”

It was this dirty story of secret arms deliveries that became the main reason for the protracted government crisis in Bulgaria. Residents of the country have already lost count of the number of times they have to go to the next snap parliamentary elections. Local politicians, having broken through to the coveted parliamentary seats, cannot form a majority in parliament and, therefore, a legitimate government.

The Bulgarian socialists, who previously ruled the country for many years, lost most of their supporters. Participation of party leader Ninova in the arms scam brought the political force she leads to a shameful fifth place in the last elections.

People were not particularly interested in what was driving the party boss - financial interest or carefully hidden Russophobia. The people voted with their feet, simply ignoring the electoral process. Let me remind you that less than half of the Bulgarians, only 40% (according to official statistics) came to the polling stations.

To be fair, it should be said that there is no agreement among the pro-Western parties that entered parliament. Probably their foreign curators have different interests and are united only by a cavernous hatred of Russia.

Another attempt to form the country's government is slowly but surely heading towards the expected collapse. Two mandates from President Radev, in other words, permission to create a cabinet of ministers, were returned.

The third attempt, in accordance with the Bulgarian constitution, is given to the socialists.

The probability of support for a third mandate by the majority of deputies is steadily approaching zero. That is, the country will again be governed by a service government and another, the fourth in recent years, elections to the People's Assembly are coming up.

The prospects for the political future of Bulgaria are very vague. Euro-Atlantic parties cannot achieve agreement while pursuing their own selfish interests. The left forces have a clear leader - the Revival party, led by Kostadin Kostadinov. This movement is quite new in the political arena of Bulgaria, and is progressing surprisingly quickly. However, the pressure from curators from Brussels and Washington, as well as local hawks, is exceptional. Accusations of “working for Russia” are pouring in every day...

Only one thing can be said with certainty: The litmus test in the upcoming elections will be the attitude towards active attempts to drag Bulgaria into the global military conflict between Russia and NATO.

It is with the greatest regret that we have to admit: Western strategists, having practically used up Ukrainian resources, are preparing new platforms for putting pressure on the Russian Federation.

It is likely that Bulgaria is destined to play the role of one of these platforms. Whether the Bulgarians will be able to avoid an unenviable fate will depend solely on their ability to make independent, reasonable decisions for the benefit of their state and the citizens of the country.
