The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry threatens to “crush Russia with parallel tracks”
The Paris negotiations in the “Normandy format” took place allegedly thanks to Ukraine, which created the appearance of implementing the Minsk agreements by partially withdrawing troops on the front line.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vasily Bodnar stated this during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, now Kiev’s task is to “force the Kremlin” to fulfill the agreements reached in Paris, despite the fact that Russia is not at all a party to the conflict in Donbass, and the Ukrainian authorities have not made the changes envisaged by Minsk to the Constitution on the special status of the republics Donbass.
“It should be noted that Ukraine, for its part, has already begun implementing its part of the agreements. We are talking about the decision adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on extension of the law on the effect of the status of a special order of local self-government in certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions,” Bodnar states.
At the same time, the representative of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry declared his intentions to continue making unconstructive attempts to force Western “partners” to strengthen sanctions against Russia, instead of clearly moving along the course of the “Normandy format” approved by Europe.
“The discussion of peace in Donbass is not resolved solely by the topic of negotiations within the Normandy format. We are negotiating with the United States, Canada and our other allies, primarily regarding political and sanctions pressure. Including with neighboring countries that understand the same threat that the Russian Federation poses to neighboring states...
Now we are forming an agenda in order to convey our concerns and attract other partners, but not in the “Normandy format”, but in other parallel tracks that will allow us to put pressure on Russia so that it fulfills its obligations signed within the framework of the “Normandy format” , noted Bodnar.
Also, the Kiev diplomat did not miss the opportunity to once again declare Russia a party to the conflict in Donbass and declare official Kyiv’s refusal to begin direct negotiations with the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics.
Let us recall that earlier during a large press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that if Kyiv attempts to revise the Minsk agreements, the peace process will reach a dead end.
