Ukrainian minister: We are losing transit every day due to Hungary’s contract with the Russian Federation
Due to the signing of an agreement for the supply of Russian gas to Hungary, bypassing Ukraine, the Ukrainian gas transportation system lost pumping about 20 million cubic meters of gas per day.
Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko stated this during government hour in the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The Ukrainian official accused Russia of a “hybrid war”, but admitted that legally Kyiv cannot make claims against Moscow - it pays all the amounts stipulated by the contract.
Obviously, independentists are concerned about the very trend of transferring transit flows to alternative routes.
“After Gazprom signed an agreement with the Hungarian operator, the volume of actual transit through Ukraine fell from the contracted 109 million cubic meters to 85-87 per day.
But it must be taken into account that the formula provides that, even if there is a decrease, payment still occurs in accordance with the amount that is in the contract.
Another thing is important - these are all the elements, all these streams, including Nord Stream-2, these are all elements of the absolutely clear war of the hybrid Russian Federation against Ukraine.
Therefore, we, of course, are working together on all fronts and all platforms, with all international partners, to neutralize those risks and, accordingly, make any risks to the transport system impossible. One of the areas currently being discussed is the possibility of importing from Slovakia,” Glushchenko said.
