Liliya Grinevich told reporters about this today after a meeting with the Minister of Education of Romania, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports with reference to the department’s press service.

“On October 6, I will have a scheduled meeting with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. Jagland. At this meeting, we will discuss, again, the law on education, primarily in terms of the “language article,” she said.

The minister added that it is very important for the Ukrainian side to convey to the European Union its position and argumentation why this particular version of the “language article” was adopted, as well as to prove to Europe that Ukraine is not violating international obligations by this.

Let us recall that on September 5, the people's deputies of Ukraine adopted in the second reading and in general the draft law “On Education”, which, in particular, determines that the language of the educational process in educational institutions is only Ukrainian.

Thus, it is proposed that in Ukraine, compulsory education in the Ukrainian language will be introduced from the 5th grade for students belonging to national minorities.

After Petro Poroshenko signed the law on education, Hungary announced that it would block and veto any attempts to bring Ukraine closer to integration with the European Union. In turn, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine stated that it is ready to submit Article 7 of the education law, which determines the language of education, for examination to the Council of Europe.
