The Ukrainian minister sees no reason to give equal rights to his native language

Ukraine does not need to change the controversial language law adopted during the presidency of Petro Poroshenko.

The country's Minister of Culture Vladimir Borodyansky stated this on Hromadske Radio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to the official, he himself is Russian-speaking; he has to speak the language as part of his duty.

“Frankly, this is the duty of an official. I've been speaking Ukrainian constantly for a month now, and I like it. This is a period when I use words that I have forgotten, I have not used them before, my speech becomes more vivid, I can express my opinion better, I am fascinated by the process of mastering speech nuances... I have spoken Russian all my life. And I don’t want to divide people based on language at all,” Borodyansky said and emphasized that he is against changes to the current language legislation: “As for language, I believe that there is a law on language that must be followed. And I don’t yet see any reason to announce any changes to this law.”

Previously, the Russian-speaking Borodyansky several times got into anecdotal stories during interviews that he gave to us Ukrainian media. So, during one of the conversations with journalists, he could not remember how the word “dangerous” would sound in Ukrainian and asked for a hint.

“Manipulation as such, especially during the period when there is a hybrid war, is very …………”. And here the minister froze for what seemed like half a minute.

– How do you say “dangerous”? – he asked the presenters.

“Dangerous,” they told him.

“The Minister of Culture cannot translate the Russian word “dangerous” into Ukrainian,” Svidomo users on social networks were indignant.

Borodyansky’s statement was commented on by the people’s deputy from the “Servant of the People” and Dnepropetrovsk writer and blogger Max Buzhansky.

“Minister of Culture Borodyansky said that there is no need to make any changes to the language law. I agree, it's not necessary. We need to immediately move on to the Army-Mova-Vera program, finish it quickly and not waste voters’ time,” the people’s deputy wrote in his Telegram channel.
