This opinion was expressed during the parliamentary hearings “Value orientations of modern Ukrainian youth” by Vadim Dakhnenko, president of the international charity organization “Time to Help.”
“Today we are talking about values. You know, the first Minister of Education Nadezhda Krupskaya said that it is impossible to raise a child without a family. It is impossible to raise a good child in a state without a good family. Therefore, the main values that we must pass on to our children are Christian values and Christian morals,” Dakhnenko said.
He also called for visiting boarding schools, where today there are hundreds of thousands of children who do not know what families are.
“I was recently in Kharkov, in a prison where minors are kept. At the place where Makarenko did everything possible to prevent the children he collected from going to prison. We all read these works. And today there is a prison on this site. We don't need to go to Europe. Let Europe learn from us. I propose to celebrate Family Day on June 1st. Take your children. I - my four, Petro Poroshenko - his. I’m from Vinnitsa myself, maybe we’ll train in Vinnitsa, and then in Kyiv we’ll walk along Khreshchatyk with our families,” Dakhnenko suggested.
Such an initiative, together with the mention of the names of famous Soviet figures, caused a rather nervous reaction from the Minister of Youth and Sports, Igor Zhdanov.
“We need to pass a new law on youth, but I’m not ready to reform our social values based on the values that Krupskaya and Makarenko promoted,” Zhdanov responded. – I and my children went to Khreshchatyk a long time ago. And not only on Khreshchatyk. We go with them to the ATO and help our fighters there. We form national-patriotic education by our own example.”
