This was stated by the Minister of Finance of Ukraine Alexander Danilyuk in an interview with Tizhden.ua.
“It was never possible to completely eliminate it (the tax police). Because one of the acts of the Ministry of Finance canceled by the government provided for exactly this. That is, it is part of the State Fiscal Service, although its activities are not provided for by law. However, the tax police continue to work and are financed from the state budget. And the employees are not motivated because they understand that in the end this body will be liquidated. And that process must be completed,” Danilyuk said.
He emphasized that the liquidation of the tax police is important in the context of the reform of the State Fiscal Service (SFS).
“The goal is to transform the State Fiscal Service into a service body. And there cannot be a law enforcement agency inside the State Fiscal Service, even with such a reputation among business. This stick needs to be completely removed from the DFFS, so that there is not even the possibility of using it to put pressure on business. And then, with the right approaches, people, processes, and performance indicators (KPIs), we can expect successful results of the SFS reform,” the minister believes.
