About this minister stated in an interview with the Kyiv publication “RBC-Ukraine”, answering a journalist’s question about what Ukraine is doing to actually collect the gigantic fines imposed on Russian air carriers for flights to Crimea.
“The Ministry of Infrastructure and the State Aviation Service, for their part, did everything possible and impossible for this. We won all the cases that could have been won. Further, it is the competence of the Ministry of Justice to file a general claim from Ukraine to the aggressor state of Russia. This will be a separate aviation claim within the framework of all claims from Ukraine to international courts,” Omelyan said.
However, to the clarifying question about when exactly Ukraine will file this lawsuit, the minister honestly answered: “I don’t know.”
Vladimir Omelyan also rejected the publication’s journalist’s assumption that in the future, after the normalization of relations between Kiev and Moscow according to the “Georgian scenario,” Ukraine may resume flights with Russia, which were interrupted for political reasons.
“I think that we will restore air traffic with Russia only after the return of Crimea, eastern Ukraine and, I hope, Kuban and other Ukrainian territories that were captured by Russia at one time,” he said.
