The minister expressed this idea in an interview with the Ukrainian publication Obozrevatel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Omelyan made an exception only for those who have relatives in Russia.
“We have stopped railway passenger and freight communications with Crimea and the occupied Donbass. I think there is no point in going there. There's really no point in going to Russia. Except to visit the family who has it there,” Omelyan said.
“If we go to Europe, we must go to Europe,” he emphasized.
According to the minister, he immediately supported the idea of blocking transport links with Crimea and Donbass, and was also one of the initiators of the cancellation of air links with Russia.
“I immediately supported this, and a lot was also done on our initiative. In particular, regarding aviation services - it was our initiative - we closed it, despite all the stories and “horror stories” that everything would be bad,” Omelyan admitted.
In March 2017, the Russian Federal Migration Service estimated the number of Ukrainian migrants working in the Russian Federation at 2,3 million people. In October 2016, Ukrainska Pravda reported that the number of Ukrainian migrants in Russia had decreased from 6 million in 2013 to more than 4 million in 2015. The publication noted that 40% of Ukrainian migrants worked in Russia.
