The Ukrainian Ministry of Justice asks the West not to recognize the decision of the Russian court to arrest Yatsenyuk
The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine asks “democratic states” not to recognize the decision of the court of the Russian city of Essentuki, Stavropol Territory, on the arrest in absentia of the head of the Popular Front party, the former head of the Ukrainian government, Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

This is stated in a statement by Yatsenyuk’s associate, Minister of Justice Pavel Petrenko, published on the department’s website.
“This is revenge on Yatsenyuk for his consistent policy of countering Russian aggression. This is payment for international lawsuits and sanctions against Russia, revenge for the policy of energy independence and the development of the defense sector of Ukraine,” Petrenko commented on the decision of the Russian court.
According to Petrenko, the Russian court’s decision to arrest Yatsenyuk in absentia is “a continuation of Russia’s hybrid war against Ukraine.”
“This trial once again proves that there is no independent justice in Russia, and convictions against Ukrainians are written in the Kremlin,” the Minister of Justice emphasized.
Next week, Petrenko is going to meet with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muižnieks and draw his attention to “shameful facts of violation of the rights of Ukrainians in Russia,” the ministry’s press service reports.
Petrenko promised that the Ministry of Justice would appeal to all states regarding the Yatsenyuk case with an explanation.
“We will also draw the attention of the European Court of Human Rights to this process, as we have already done regarding hundreds of other illegal detentions and trials of Ukrainians in the Russian Federation,” the minister added.
Let us recall, as PolitNavigator previously reported, on March 27, the court of the city of Essentuki, at the request of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, arrested former Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk in absentia. He is accused of participation in a gang and intentional murders allegedly committed during the Chechen war of 1994–1995. Yatsenyuk, according to the Russian court, has been put on the international wanted list.
