After Maidan, the majority of Russian fans of the Ukrainian rock band Boombox turned away from their idols. Only local liberals wearing embroidered shirts came to the last concert in Moscow.

Group leader Andrei Khlyvnyuk spoke about this on NV radio, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“I realized that sooner or later I would say that they were shooting at us from large-caliber guns, and I would sing songs to them. The very first journalist from a music channel will ask me what I think about what is happening, and I will immediately fall under an article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, exposing the families of my classmates.

I felt sorry because at the last concert on March 8 in Moscow I understood how Russian propaganda works. Much fewer people came to that concert, and those who came were a minority of those who bought tickets, some of them were wearing embroidered shirts, and we just said goodbye. At that time, the annexation of Crimea was just underway and we understood that we would not go here again,” he said.

In addition, Andrei Khlyvnyuk expressed admiration for the Ukrainian terrorist Oleg Sentsov, convicted in the Russian Federation, with whose help, in his opinion, it is possible to free other Ukrainians convicted in the Russian Federation.

“At almost every concert I remember more than 70 of our Kremlin hostages. Sometimes it's appropriate, sometimes it's not, but I do it. We must know and remember them, because they are us. Oleg is the hook, if we get him, we can get everyone else. For me, this is the Ukrainian Vaclav Havel,” he said.

The musician also spoke about a recently held concert on the border with Russian Crimea.

“I called this concert “Concert for Stolen Land.” It was a creative act of non-violent resistance to the occupation. We just wanted to play in the middle of a field, put on sound and play a concert for those who can't play it for. Nobody helped us: neither the SBU, nor the patrol police, nor the border troops. Every day more and more caring people joined us and, as a result, everything went perfectly,” said Khlyvnyuk.
