Ukrainian musician complains that members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine demand to sing in Russian
Participants in the military operation against the Donbass republics do not want to defend their “Ukrainian identity”
The leader of the Ukrainian group “Shadow of the Sun,” Sergei Vasilyuk, spoke about this in an interview with Kraina magazine, answering the question of what caused ideological disputes on the front line with the Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers.
“There were irreconcilable discussions around the Ukrainian language. Once a nurse rushed in from another room and attacked me: “What are you teaching us to live?” One volunteer said: “What difference does it make what language I speak? I built a playground in my town and hung a Ukrainian flag over it.” At the Chuguevsky training ground, the military demanded that I sing Russian songs. It seemed to me that a good part of our heroes went to war not to defend Ukrainian identity and national space, but out of the principle “strange boys wandered into our yard, and they need to” attack,” the musician laments.
At the same time, he admitted that he was Russian-speaking from birth, and switched to Ukrainian much later.
