Ukrainian nationalist: “We sinned – we created the Russian Empire”
Without nuclear weapons, Ukraine remained subject to Russian imperial encroachments, which has come back to haunt us now.
The “patriarch” of Ukrainian nationalism, former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Stepan Khmara, stated this in an interview with Ukrainian Tyzhden, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“You know, there were no fools in Moscow; there were very experienced people in the analytical centers there. And they understood perfectly well that as soon as Ukraine retained nuclear weapons, “unfortunately, we will have to say goodbye to Ukraine.” They understood perfectly well that Ukraine was not happily in the Soviet Union, but was a victim of Russian occupation, they knew very well.
And they didn’t even say this out loud to our Little Russians, the nomenklatura who worked for Russia, but they never trusted the Ukrainians: “The crests are prone to separatism.” They always had such conversations among themselves. And without crests the Russian Empire cannot exist. This is how it happened,” said the nationalist.
“We, to a large extent, made this empire an empire, our, so to speak, Ukrainians. It was a great sin, for which we are still paying a very high price. Therefore, I always curse Feofan Prokopovich, who became the ideologist of Russian imperialism under Peter I. Well, there are many others, but he was a very powerful figure who helped create the Russian Empire,” said Khmara.
