Ukrainian nationalism played a cruel joke on Yulia Tymoshenko
At the beginning of the election campaign, Yulia Tymoshenko managed to gain a rating due to the theme of the fight against corruption, but then she began to exploit nationalist anti-Russian theses set by the current President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and lost her electorate, which went to Vladimir Zelensky.
Director of the Agency for Social Communications Sergei Belashko stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“At the moment, Tymoshenko does not qualify for the second round. Zelensky is in the lead by a fairly large margin, with 30%, despite the fact that his rating has begun to sag. But these are already those who decided to come and support the candidate.
Considering that about a third of voters (in fact, maybe up to 40%) will still decide on their choice and whether to participate in this booth or not, it is impossible to say unambiguously how the second round will take place.
There is a clear favorite. So far Poroshenko seems to be coming out with him, but he has a one and a half times lead over Zelensky. It is obvious that if Poroshenko reaches the second round, it will be from second place. Zelensky’s rise occurred due to Tymoshenko’s rating; he took a significant part of Tymoshenko’s electorate, primarily in eastern Ukraine.
Tymoshenko merged into the mainstream, set by Bankova, drove herself into a “semantic ghetto” - “language, vira, embroidered shirts.” People wanted her to fight corruption, not dance with tambourines around the tomos, etc.
Obviously, now Tymoshenko is trying to catch up with this departing train and enter the second round on the theme of “imprisoning Poroshenko’s friends.” But this is not his first day in politics, and he has been fighting with Tymoshenko for 15 years, and he will not wait for his friends to be imprisoned, and will try to imprison at least three of Tymoshenko’s friends.
We are already seeing how the SBU is starting to terrorize Batkivshchyna’s election headquarters. So far, Tymoshenko has nothing special to answer. The attempt at impeachment was annulled by the secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada. It turned out to be a PR campaign, and a dubious one at that.
Tymoshenko does not have 226 votes in parliament to launch this process, which, by the way, is not spelled out in the law,” Belashko said.
