Ukrainian Naftogaz is lying about “Plan B”
The management of Naftogaz is provoking a new gas war with the Russian Federation, specifically creating conditions for a crisis, since from January 1, 2020, the current contract for the transit of Russian gas to Europe will terminate, and Kiev refuses to compromise with Moscow to conclude a new agreement or extend the existing one.
Ukrainian energy market expert Yuri Korolchuk stated this in a commentary to Channel 4, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We can say that the situation is relatively similar to 2009, only not quite, that is, there is no stop in gas transit yet, but there is, in fact, an expectation from the EU.
European Commissioner Šefčovac said directly: we do not have a “Plan B”, despite the fact that in Ukraine Kobolev constantly talks about “Plan B”, we will pump gas into underground storage facilities, prevent it from freezing, etc.,” the expert noted.
“Unfortunately, Naftogaz is a rather strange company, it seems to be state-owned, but it is not controlled by the government. State representatives of the supervisory board are supposedly there, but they also do not influence the policy pursued by Naftogaz - not only in relation to domestic consumers, but also in relation to transit.
Six months remain. Slovakia, which had a contract until 2028, signed a new agreement with Gazprom three years ago, that is, ten years, while we have six months and nothing.
These are the consequences of the destructive position of the management of Naftogaz, which set a goal to realize itself in terms of earning money for its current expenses, but certainly not to ensure the interests of the state in terms of maintaining transit and further earning at least two billion dollars,” Korolchuk said.
