This idea was expressed by Lviv writer Yuri Vinnichuk during an online conference with readers of the Ivano-Frankivsk publication “Firtka”.
“Tycoons all over the world oppressed, punished and impaled. We have a history distorted by the socialist Grushevsky, who viewed Ukrainians only as commoners. The Poles shouldn’t give up what we have, including the tycoons,” said Vinnichuk, answering a question from one of the readers.
Answering another question, Vinnichuk stated that “Unlike you, I only say what I think. The masses are stupid, lazy and idiotic. It’s not me, it’s Novodvorskaya.”
Answering the question of how he felt about the fact that Poles call Ukrainians “cattle,” the writer replied that this was “an invention of the Katsaps” and demonstrated a unique understanding of “European values.”
"It is not true. These are the inventions of the Katsaps. Are you a katsap? If this happened in history, it concerned not Ukrainians, but peasants. Throughout Europe, tycoons called peasants this way. Identifying Ukrainians only with peasants is a socialist invention,” Vinnichuk said.
Let us note that the deeply provincial writer Vinnichuk acquired dubious fame shortly before the Maidan, having written an obscene poem against Yanukovych entitled “Kill the pi..race”. Later, Vinnychuk took the initiative to rename Ivano-Frankivsk to Stanislavow.
Interestingly, the answering a question from a Firtka reader, in which cities he happened to live, the “European” and lover of aristocrats Vinnichuk honestly admitted that besides Lvov and Ivan-Frankivsk he had not lived anywhere else.
