The Ukrainian parliament has turned into an oligarchic stock exchange

The Verkhovna Rada is not a legislative body—parliament in the classical sense of the word.

This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was expressed by Kiev political strategist Sergei Gaidai in a commentary to the Kiev magazine Novoye Vremya, answering the question of how he felt about the new convocation of the Ukrainian parliament.

"No way. I believe that we still do not have a parliament in our country. This is not parliament, but its imitation or simulacrum. This parliament has two functions and is usually divided into two chambers. One of them represents the interests of specific self-governing territories, and the second represents the interests of representatives of society: entrepreneurs, the middle class, employees, etc. The Rada performs neither the first nor the second function,” the expert is convinced.

“Our parliament is a stock exchange where financial and industrial groups and families, through their lobbyists, organized into so-called parties or groups within one big party, negotiate legislative deals. This is something that not a single parliament, not a single president and not a single government has changed. And it is clear that the question is not about dispersing parliament and recruiting new people, but about restructuring the architecture of power,” Gaidai concluded.

As PolitNavigator reported, in the Rada stated that Ukraine plunged into socio-economic collapse
