In Ukraine, there is a public consensus regarding the assessment of what is happening in Donbass as a war with Russia, and those parties or politicians who stand out from this consensus should be isolated.

This opinion was stated in an interview with the Ukrainian online publication “Left Bank” representative of Ukraine in the working subgroup on political issues of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk, Roman Bessmertny, reports the PolitNavigator correspondent.

“I really like Bismarck’s phrase: “One more war with France and we will unite Germany.” The war with Russia also unites Ukraine. We all must understand: yes, you can discuss, you can suggest, you can criticize. But we are all at war with Russia. And if a person or party appears in the electoral process that destroys this unanimity, they must be immediately removed from the process, there is no justification for this,” he emphasized.

Also, according to the Ukrainian negotiator, negotiations in Minsk are a priori useless, since similar conversations on Nagorno-Karabakh in neighboring offices have not led to a solution to the issue for 28 years.

“Imagine, another Trilateral Contact Group is meeting in Minsk to resolve the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. So, negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan have been ongoing in Minsk for 28 years. Do you like such prospects?” Bessmertny noted.

At the same time, the representative of Kyiv in Minsk criticized ex-president Petro Poroshenko, who built a decision-making system in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that was excessively tied to the personal factor.

“Peter Alekseevich was previously the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and he understood this very well. But the downside of this situation is that he believed that he was the only one who understood matters. And so the system of power worked like this: President Poroshenko dialed and said: “You do this, you do this, and you do this.” People were offended, tried to oppose - the response was “I told you so!”

And as a result, after Poroshenko’s defeat, the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs institutionally collapsed, the role of the National Security and Defense Council in this process collapsed, the institution of the Minister of Foreign Affairs collapsed, the role of the Verkhovna Rada committee collapsed, the control function of the Verkhovna Rada disappeared altogether - because the policy was implemented by one person,” Bessmertny lamented.

Let us recall that earlier Roman Bessmertny stated that opposes granting Donbass special status spoke out against the exchange of mutually retained persons between Ukraine, Russia and LDPR, as well as denied the possibility of holding in the republics of Donbass local elections.
