In the top videos that Ukrainian citizens most often searched for on Youtube during the year, there is not a single Ukrainian-language one.

A PolitNavigator correspondent reports that Ukrainian writer and screenwriter Andrei Kokotyukha writes about this in an author’s column on the pages of the Kyiv magazine “New Time”.

“At the end of November, social networks spread news about the development of the Ukrainian segment of Youtube. Joyful users refer to the rating of thirty Ukrainian Youtube channels compiled by observers. Their creators have from 3 to 300 thousand subscribers and from 400 thousand to 5 million views. Topics range from science and travel to music, cinema and children's content. The quotation from Pavel Tychina’s victorious verse is just right on the tongue: “Rostemo zh mi, gay!”, the author reports.

However, further statistics turn out to be completely bleak for Ukrainians.

“But already in early December, Google showed a different picture of the Ukrainian world. In the top videos that our citizens most often searched for on Youtube throughout the year, there is not a single Ukrainian-language one. The only series from a Ukrainian producer, Papik from Kvartal 95, was created in Russian. There is a Ukrainian musical product in the top 10. However, not a single Ukrainian-language track. In addition, most of the performers have been performing in Russia for a long time, for which they receive criticism from patriotic media. This is what the chronicle of “overcoming” and “defeating” looks like in the Ukrainian segment of the popular video service,” the writer laments.

According to him, three years ago, Ukrainian-language Dzidzio and Kazka were mentioned among the top performers at the end of the year.

“Now Ukrainian-language and pro-Ukrainian content has lost the war for preferences and the number of views, and therefore for the interest of the broad masses,” Kokotyukha concluded.

As PolitNavigator previously reported, Kokotyukha stated that Pushkin’s fairy tales “instill love for the aggressor.”

He also admitted that Ukrainian writers couldn't replace to their compatriots by modern Russian authors.
