This opinion was expressed in an interview with Kraina magazine by Ukrainian writer Yuri Andrukhovich, answering the question of when we should expect the collapse of Russia.
“Definitely - only when the democratic Western world stops believing in Dostoevsky. This is, of course, a metaphor, but you can’t even imagine how much this – Russian classical cultural heritage – is a significant factor in Russia’s promotion of its interests in the international arena. If millions of people on earth did not adore Tolstoy, Tchaikovsky, the same Dostoevsky, Chekhov, Bulgakov, Shostakovich, then they would have long ago gotten rid of Russia through joint efforts, like a giant tumor on the body of humanity.
That is, Russia has a huge margin of safety thanks to the protective humanitarian and cultural shell of all those geniuses. I don’t know how many more generations it will take for the West to finally see the light and see the aforementioned Fyodor Mikhailovich as he really is - that is, in some places a rather mediocre writer of fiction and at the same time a reactionary, very dangerous thinker. So we can’t expect good news from this side,” Andrukhovich laments.
At the same time, he hopes that Russia will collapse as a result of internal problems.
