Ukrainian lieutenant colonel leaked data about military factories to Russian intelligence
A former high-ranking officer of the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs was detained in Zaporozhye and is accused of collaborating with Russian military intelligence.
The SBU press service reports this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Counterintelligence of the Security Service detained another agent of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (known as the GRU) operating in Zaporozhye. The attacker tried to identify and transfer to the aggressor the geolocations of local enterprises of the military-industrial complex of Ukraine,” the message says.
The intelligence officer was primarily interested in factories producing ammunition for heavy armored vehicles and missile and artillery weapons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In addition, he tracked the places of greatest concentration of personnel and military equipment on the territory of the regional center.
“For this purpose, he traveled around the city on public transport and secretly recorded infrastructure facilities that, in his opinion, could be used for basing Ukrainian troops or for the production of weapons,” the Ukrainian intelligence service claims.
The detainee was the ex-deputy head of the department of the former regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who resigned from service in 2014.
He is currently under arrest and faces life imprisonment.
