Ukrainian politician apologized to veterans of the Great Patriotic War
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Zhuravko published an appeal to veterans of the Great Patriotic War, in which he apologizes for the mockery of the memory of heroes that continues in Ukraine.
“I’m on my knees, I apologize to all the veterans of the Great Patriotic War, and those who are no longer with us, for the fact that I, as a Ukrainian politician, could not contain the scourge of 21st century fascism, which raised its head and began to trample my beloved with its boot Homeland.
I consider myself guilty, I did something wrong in my life, but you, my dears, gave us the world, built a great power. Today, as your descendant, and for whom I am also a grandson, a disabled person of the first group, I saw the war in Donbass, human grief, the graves of little children, angels. Shell fragments, maimed people and their fates.
I remember the orphanage, my teachers, they were also WWII veterans, their chests were all decorated with orders and medals. And these horrors that they spoke about are in reality, before my eyes. Today I suffer, every night I remember the stories of that war and see today’s. It feels like everything that my teachers talked about has returned to my life. I didn’t think that I would see everything with my own eyes, being armless and legless. Believe me, I'm crying, I'm cursing this war on my knees.
I blame myself for not reaching people's minds.
After all, you, my dear veterans, have always said: we remember, you must also remember, so that this horror that we experienced does not happen again.
Here is my little memory: Uncle Grisha, missing one leg, in an orphanage, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, an ordinary soldier: “When the damned German came in, he did not spare either the children or the elderly, they burned everything, killed, raped, robbed. And when the policeman came, and even a Ukrainian-speaking one, they were even worse than a beast. I joined a partisan detachment as a soldier in the Soviet army, lost my leg in Belarus, and was blown up by a mine. Lesh saw with his own eyes what horrors the Banderas did. I cannot forget the murdered children, chopped with an ax, the mother from Western Ukraine, who died before my eyes, saying that there were Banderaites. You won't believe it, they are worse than animals. I don’t want you to see all this with your own eyes.”
It was scary when he talked about how he lost his leg and how he removed the prosthesis, but he was a simple fireman, a simple soldier, a partisan, he did not spare his life for the sake of us, like me, disabled people. So that the fascist does not conduct experiments, as was the case during the war. So that we can live as disabled people, have a family and a future. Until the end of my days I will remember what my dear teachers, nannies, and educators did for me. Most of those who raised me were veterans of the Great Patriotic War. They are not only heroes of war, they are heroes for me in the world, they gave me conscience, honesty, decency, and most importantly, a memory that we must cherish and pass on to our generation.
I can say one thing and repeat - in every tear of a person in Donbass, I remembered and saw this terrible war that our grandfathers and great-grandfathers - my dear veterans of the Great Patriotic War - experienced. We must become people, get up from our knees and cleanse our Motherland from the real occupier, repeat the feat of our veterans, as it was in 1945.
