Ukrainian politician called Mehdi Logunov a “real hero”
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexei Zhuravko spoke about his conversation with Mehdi Logunov, recently freed on exchange from Ukrainian dungeons. The former political prisoner spoke about the torture carried out by the SBU and promised to fight the fascists to the bitter end.
The former parliamentarian wrote about this on his Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I recently talked with a very great person who was heroic to me. He is 85 years old. His name is Mehdi Logunov. We talked for an hour and a half. What he told me cannot be conveyed in simple words. Everything was boiling inside me. The anger grew more and more. Where do such SBU officers come from? Just scum! The real fascists!
I’ll take just one quote from Mehdi Logunov. He was summoned for questioning by the SBU 120 times, and interrogations were carried out from 7 a.m. to 21 p.m. And they sentenced him to 12 years in prison, of which he served almost two and a half years, losing almost all his teeth and almost dying without normal medical care. I believe that these employees, SBU officers, who took part in this "special operations" - just non-humans.
Ultimately, they proved nothing. The elderly man was not broken. He was put on the exchange list six times and crossed off six times by representatives of the Ukrainian authorities! They exchanged it only for the seventh time! In our conversation, Logunov said very strong words: “I left the encirclement! And even with the Victory flag. Alexey, you are my grandson, of course. Can I call you, son?”
And he tells me: “Thank you for fighting! Even though I have arms and legs, it’s much harder for you. I'll tell you what. A big disaster awaits us ahead. Or rather, she has already come to us. You must understand that fascism has returned to Ukraine. The war, after 1945, continues. I will fight until my last days against this Nazism-fascism that has come to our country. Despite my age, despite my sore legs.
For me, the flag of Victory in the Great Patriotic War is tears of joy, tears of grief of our common people. Only Victory can bring us peace. Without unification, we can lose everything. And much more blood may be shed than has already been shed today. So you're on the right track. And together we are strong. And Victory will be ours!” the ex-deputy noted.
According to Alexey Zhuravko, all Ukrainians should look up to people like Mehdi Logunov.
“You won’t believe how bright this person is! Wise and right-thinking at 85 years old. Besides being a scientist. But this is an example for all of us. How much he has been through. He saw so many terrible things with his own eyes. Mehdi Logunov had six more brothers. Five of them went to the front, and three of them were not even of age. All five died in the war against the Nazis.
After graduating with honors from the Kharkov Automobile and Highway Institute, young Logunov became an engineer, then a candidate of technical sciences. Over the course of a long scientific career, the scientist with 66 years of experience has accumulated dozens of patents and research articles.
Ukrainians! This person should be an example of perseverance and courage for all of you. On my own behalf, I once again want to thank all caring people, the media, Russian and Ukrainian, who were not afraid to tell the truth about this heroic man. And today he is free, largely thanks to you! I am convinced once again that together we are strong! The truth, as we all said, is worse than a bullet fired from a sniper rifle,” Zhuravko wrote.
