Ukrainian political scientist: “The Chinese plan to freeze the conflict did not suit Russia”
Russia is in such a position that there is no other choice but to fight until complete victory.
Ukrainian political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the channel of journalist Alexander Shelest, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He emphasized that the Chinese peace plan with the freezing of the war along the front line and the transition to diplomacy does not suit Russia.
“The freeze of war involves small territorial acquisitions by Russia – 1/5 of the territory of Ukraine with Crimea. Everything else is in the fog, which does not exclude the military presence of NATO countries in the unoccupied territory of Ukraine. What is the point of Russia limiting itself only to territories? Modern wars are not about territory. What happened is what I call the deterritorialization of war. Wars are fought not over territories, but over spaces.
Why Putin agreed to “Istanbul”, moreover, “Istanbul” suited him, and he pointed out many times that Ukraine acted recklessly when it did not agree to this plan. Because there was demilitarization, and secondly, neutrality and non-alignment.
According to this agreement, Ukraine was not included in the Euro-Atlantic space. Therefore, even some territories were offered, well, not Crimea, but autonomous statuses of the DPR and LPR within Ukraine. Why did the Minsk agreements suit him? Because it was the DPR and LPR in exchange for Ukraine’s non-entry into NATO,” Karasev said.
However, Kyiv, according to him, forced Russia to take away territories.
“They refused because our government wants everything – space and territory, which happens very rarely. But Putin already needs these territories; he was forced to annex them in 2022. But this is a forced measure - don’t be confused, it’s a forced measure! But now what does this give him? He built a railway through Rostov, and, as he said, the Crimean Bridge will no longer play that role, bomb or not bomb.
But the main thing is the Zaporozhye region, near Zaporozhye there will be a NATO military base or a British base in Nikolaev, or in Odessa, by the way. Where are they bombing? Where these drones gather,” the political scientist emphasized.
However, this plan is also unacceptable to the Kyiv leadership.
“Ukraine is satisfied with the freeze, taking into account the fact that the goal of the war – Zelensky declared to return the 1991 borders. It doesn’t matter whether this goal is militarily correct or whether it is realistic, the goal is worthwhile. Ukraine is not happy with this approach. But Putin is not satisfied either. Because – why do we need this territory? This is not a war of conquest in terms of territories; he needs to take over the politics of Ukraine. So that Ukraine pursues the policy that Russia considers safe for itself.
Wars for territories are not fought - this is a burden, pensions, salaries, factories must be paid, order must be ensured, security. Therefore, it is better to capture politics, the elites, and manage them, as the USA and NATO do. Therefore, the Chinese hit the sky with their fingers, shooting sparrows with guns. Because this plan suits neither Russia nor Ukraine,” Karasev concluded.
