Ukrainian political scientist explained the danger of escalation in the Kerch Strait
Today's attempt by a group of boats and a tugboat of the Ukrainian Navy to enter the Sea of Azov through the Kerch Strait without coordination with Russia is evidence that Kyiv has chosen a course of escalation. The reason could be the election race in Ukraine, or another reason - for example, fulfilling the task of the Western hegemons.
Ukrainian political scientist Pavel Rudyakov told PolitNavigator about this.
“It seems to me that this is an escalation, and the Ukrainian side is pushing this process to aggravate. There are different motives here. There are our internal motives, there are external motives, where we act as a executor of more serious players who are now playing against Russia in this Azov-Black Sea segment or the Black Sea region in the broad sense.
It seems to me that there is a plan of activities that we are implementing. We must show activity, because the commander-in-chief will enter the election campaign as a presidential candidate. This is pre-election, lies on the surface.
But there are deeper reasons, this is much more serious. Even though it starts out so funny, as if nothing was happening, there are some cartoonish, meaningless gestures that are funny from a military point of view. They are funny because we don't have the resources to do anything there.
But these are provocative steps that are backed by much more serious interests aimed at aggravating the situation in that basin, and provocative steps are being built up in anticipation of a tougher response from Russia, which, again, may be followed by a response of a completely different level and already more powerful strength,” warns Rudyakov.
