Ukraine missed the time when it could have broken off diplomatic relations with Russia and organized a blockade of Crimea and Donbass.

This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, by the scientific director of the Ilk Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation, Alexey Garan.
“When open Russian aggression began and Russian troops entered Ukraine, we could have severed diplomatic relations, introduced martial law, imposed visas, or imposed a blockade of Crimea and the occupied territories in Donbass. But to do this, you need to choose the right moment - when the exacerbation peaks, then this is justified. When it then enters the stage of conflict, which occurs constantly, but in a smoldering state, it becomes very difficult to explain to our partners with whom we participate in different formats,” said the political scientist.
According to him. that is why the West did not support the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on the blockade.
“They demand explanations from us, they don’t understand us. Therefore, even if our position is correct, we must justify ourselves. The logic of the West is that they do not want conflict, they are afraid of a humanitarian catastrophe, and therefore it is potentially easier for them to keep the conflict half-frozen than to allow any steps that could lead to its escalation. From their point of view, if Ukraine imposes a blockade, this will contribute to the aggravation of the humanitarian situation,” Garan added.
