Ukrainian political scientist admitted that it is impossible to force Russia to surrender Donbass with sanctions
Economic sanctions by the United States and Europe against the Russian Federation have not changed the situation in Donbass. International affairs expert Andrei Buzarov stated this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There are sanctions that have been applied. They are very effective in terms of influencing officials of the Russian Federation, and probably the economy of the Russian Federation,” said the political scientist.
But, according to Buzarov, Western sanctions had no effect on the situation in Donbass.
“To date, sanctions have not led to a change in the situation in Donbass. I'm not saying that they shouldn't be introduced - they need to be used, they need to be strengthened, but will they change the position of the Russian Federation? I don’t know,” he doubts.
Buzarov called for an adequate approach to the US and EU economic sanctions against the Russian Federation with restrained optimism.
“We need to understand the situation realistically, that sanctions have not changed the situation in Donbass, and I don’t know whether they will,” the expert concluded.
However, quite recently, the eccentric Ukrainian political scientist Vyacheslav Kovtun burst into hysteria on the air of one of the talk shows, in which he stated that Europe will cave in under the United States, and in less than a year Russia will be suffocating under the weight of American sanctions.
