Kyiv, April 17 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Vladimir Putin’s rhetoric during today’s televised address indicates the Russian leader’s intention to restore the borders of the 1914-style empire, says Ukrainian political scientist Taras Berezovets.

“Putin’s appeal to the rhetoric of the times of the Russian Empire, the return of tsarist toponymy (Novorossiya) confirms the version that the Russian president has an imperial project in his head.

At the same time, he sees the empire not even within the borders of the USSR in 1945, but rather in 1914. This will further strain Russia's relations with the Baltic states, Moldova, Poland and the Central Asian republics.

Whatever Putin’s motivation is, it is madness for which the world will have to pay a very high price. And Russia will also drink this cup to the bottom,” the Ukrainian analyst assured.
