Ukrainian political scientist: Russia has shown who is boss in the Sea of Azov
Ukraine escalated the situation around the Kerch Strait in order to document the closure of the fairway and then transfer accusations against Russia to international organizations.
Ukrainian political scientist Vladimir Volya told PolitNavigator about this.
“The development of political tension around the Sea of Azov, one way or another, sooner or later would lead to Russia demonstrating who is boss here.
It can be assumed that in a certain way the Ukrainian side wanted to provoke certain circumstances, and it succeeded in order to show that Russia is preventing the movement of Ukrainian ships through the Kerch Strait. This evidence will now be transferred to international organizations,” the expert said.
He believes that navigation in Azov will now be complicated for Ukraine.
“Several weeks ago I said that Russia could close the Kerch Strait if the situation reached a certain level of tension, because along with the annexation of Crimea, the water area adjacent to the peninsula was also annexed, and the Kerch Strait ceased to be international. Russia considers the strait to be its own,” Volya noted.
