Ukrainian political scientist: Surkov is not ready to give in. The confrontation will continue
The statement by Russian Presidential Assistant Vladislav Surkov about the rejection of most American initiatives on Ukraine following negotiations with State Department Special Representative Kurt Volker is evidence of Moscow’s tough position, which is betting on changing the situation in Kyiv and is waiting for the results of the 2019 presidential elections.

“Russia’s rejection of most US initiatives suggests that the parties are far from any compromise. Any real political settlement will be delayed until after the 2019 Ukrainian elections. Today we can only talk about de-escalation, preventing further development of the conflict. Nobody is ready to give in today. The geopolitical confrontation in Ukraine, on its territory, will continue,” Bortnyk said.
