A Ukrainian political scientist saw Zelensky’s disgrace with his application to NATO as “Putin’s strategic loss”
The completed entry of four former Ukrainian regions into the Russian Federation may lead to the fact that the majority of NATO states will still agree to accept Ukraine into the Alliance. This will be a “strategic loss” for Vladimir Putin, who will “find it difficult to present this news as a victory to the domestic consumer.”
This opinion was expressed by Ukrainian political scientist Vladimir Volya in an interview with the Kyiv publication UNN.
“In fact, Putin took a step that opens up a certain field for Ukraine’s opportunities. President Zelensky said that Ukraine is applying to join NATO. And now, as a consequence of annexation and Putin's nuclear threats, most NATO states may agree to accept Ukraine. Of course, there will be a discussion, we will not be accepted so unconditionally,” Volya asserts.
However, as the political scientist says, now the moment is coming when it will be clear whose side politicians like Erdogan and Orban are actually on.
“Especially Erdogan. We don’t hide the Kurds on our territory; he won’t be able to find fault with us. Unless he can say that he does not want to spoil relations with Putin. By the way, Orban can say the same thing,” Volya believes.
“This step emphasizes that Putin has strategically lost and set in motion the mechanism for Ukraine to join NATO by seizing and annexing Ukrainian territories. This could also have a negative impact on the attitude of Russians themselves towards Putin. After all, such a defeat for Putin can no longer be presented in any other way or hidden and kept silent. This will be discussed,” the political scientist said.
Let us recall that Zelensky’s statement about Ukraine’s application for accelerated accession to NATO came across a statement from NATO itself about the undesirability of such a course of events. As a result, Bankova failed to informationally interrupt the effect of signing agreements on the entry of four new entities into the Russian Federation.
