Ukrainian political scientist: In Kyiv everyone is afraid of Russia’s spring offensive
Kyiv, March 10 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – In Kyiv they are seriously afraid of a new offensive that the pro-Russian militia could undertake in the Donbass, Ukrainian political scientist Viktor Nebozhenko told PolitNavigator.

“Everyone is afraid of the spring offensive. In the spring or summer, the Russians will try to prove their fundamental strategic advantage. This is not about seizing some territories, as everyone thinks, not about Mariupol or Kharkov, but about causing some kind of strategic damage to the Ukrainian army so that it cannot resist. Naturally, Russians choose when to do this,” he said.
“It is already clear how the Kremlin lives - with these three actions - an attempt to advance in Donbass, the murder of another politician in Moscow and negotiations. This is how they have fun and will have fun all this year,” added Nebozhenko.
“The offensive is possible because the separatists have not solved their main strategic objectives. They need to capture the villages of Shchastya and Stanitsa Luganskaya near Lugansk (one has a strategically important thermal power plant, the other has a railway line to Russia), they need to push Ukrainian troops as far as possible from Donetsk. Mariupol also remains a target of the separatists. They can also advance in the direction of Slavyansk. Therefore, the risks of renewed conflict remain relevant,” agrees political scientist Vladimir Fesenko.
