“Everyone knows the old fable about the shepherd boy who constantly cried “Wolves!” The neighbors at first thought that wolves had attacked a flock of sheep and rushed to help, but later realized that the shepherd had called them in vain. When the wolves actually appeared, no one believed the boy’s cries; the villagers thought it was another false alarm, and the wolves ate all the sheep.

The author of the fable is believed to be the ancient Greek poet Aesop, and the moral stated at the end of the Greek version is: “This shows how liars are rewarded: even if they tell the truth, no one believes them.” This echoes a statement attributed to Aristotle by Diogenes Laertius in his Lives and Opinions of the Eminent Philosophers. The sage was allegedly asked what those who lie get from this, and he replied: “When they tell the truth, they are not believed.”

It is noteworthy that in later English-language versions of the fable, the wolves eat not only the sheep, but also the boy himself. When I watched the reaction of “professional Ukrainian patriots” to Sergei Shoigu’s order to withdraw Russian troops from training grounds near the borders with Ukraine to permanent locations, I was reminded of this, harsher version of the fable about the screaming boy. True, the Ukrainian military-network “boys” (although there are already real grandfathers among them) today feigned not fear, but delight, and shouted that the Russian “wolves” (or bears) were running in panic, frightened of the invincible Kiev-NATO warriors But this made the feeling of the total fable that covered Ukrainian society become even more complete.

The fact is that Ukrainian military propagandists have lied so much - from “the air conditioner exploded” and “they fired at themselves” to “it wasn’t us who killed the child” - that they simply cannot imagine that the Minister of Defense can simply tell the truth. After all, the head of the Russian defense department only confirmed what representatives of the country’s civilian authorities had previously repeatedly stated: this was a test of the combat readiness of Russian troops. Sergei Shoigu himself, in a fairly routine manner, announced its beginning on April 6, and it was in no way connected with Ukraine. After all, the exercises took place in all military districts and in the Northern Fleet, as well as in the Far North, the Kuril Islands and Kamchatka, and all types and branches of the military took part in them.

And on April 22, after the successful completion of the exercises, during a meeting in Crimea, Shoigu said: “I believe that the goals of the sudden inspection have been fully achieved. The troops demonstrated the ability to provide reliable defense of the country. In this regard, I have decided to complete verification activities in the Southern and Western Military Districts.” In addition, the head of the military department instructed “the General Staff, the commanders of the military districts and the Airborne Forces to plan and begin on April 23 the return of troops to their permanent locations, conduct a detailed analysis and sum up the results of the sudden inspection of the troops.”

It is noteworthy that this process must be completed before May 1, that is, Russian soldiers and officers will celebrate the Resurrection of Christ in their permanent locations. It is worth noting that during the exercises, which lasted more than two weeks, not a single incident was recorded similar to the self-inflicted shooting of a drug-addicted Ukrainian soldier, captured on camera by his fellow soldiers.

The paradox is that there are practically no other military personnel in present-day Ukraine. After all, shelling residential areas of Donbass and killing old people and children there can be done either by moral monsters or by people who have clouded their brains with chemical or ideological drugs. That’s why today these people are rejoicing at yet another “peer victory” over Russia, without thinking about what could happen in the event of a real military clash between Ukraine and the Donbass republics, to which the regular Russian army would come to their aid. I think in this case they wouldn’t even have time to cry “wolf…”,” Khavic concluded.
