Ukrainian colonel: We will destroy the bridge and immediately occupy Crimea
Ukraine will attempt to seize Crimea if it manages to reach the Perekop Isthmus and destroy the bridge across the Kerch Strait.
Retired Colonel Oleg Zhdanov, who served in the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from 2004 to 2007, stated this on the Dom TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Zhdanov considered that the Russian troops in Crimea were not enough to repel the Ukrainian Armed Forces entering through the narrow isthmus.
“This is realistic, there is one condition - if we block the Crimean Bridge in such a way as to stop the movement of troops and personnel across it. Then yes, because now there are practically no ground forces in Crimea, they are all in Ukraine.
Only units of the Black Sea Fleet remained there, coastal defense troops, repair and restoration and medical troops remained there. Everything else enters Ukraine in transit.
If we go to Perekop and block the Crimean Bridge so that there is no recharge, then yes, I think that the General Staff will assess the risks and, most likely, it will be necessary to enter Crimea and take it on the move. This possibility quite exists,” Zhdanov said.
